Derek Pardue - Newly appointed Associate Professor at CAS

As of January 1, 2016, Derek Pardue has accepted a position as Associate Professor in Brazilian Studies.

Derek Pardue is a cultural anthropologist specializing in the Portuguese and Creole speaking world. He has conducted research in Brazil, Portugal and Cape Verde with a focus on migration, cities, citizenship and popular culture since 1995. His books include:  Brazilian Hip Hop , Cape Verdean Migration in Portugal and Ruminations on Violence. His current project analyzes how the experiences and policies around current West African migration have affected urban space in the city of São Paulo. Derek has published on a wide range of topics in leading social science and humanities journals. A selection of texts can be accessed here.
