I am an Assistant Professor in the new ERC project “CLIOdynamic ARCHaeology: Computational approaches to Final Palaeolithic/earliest Mesolithic archaeology and climate change” directed by Prof. Felix Riede.

My research will especially contribute to Work Package I of the project, which seeks to critically analyse the research-historical and conceptual background of the cultural taxonomies currently employed at the Pleistocene/Holocene threshold across Europe.

Since my research interests not only include the epistemological ramifications of Palaeolithic archaeology but also comprise the detailed empirical examination of lithic technology and, more recently, the articulation of archaeology with the emerging Environmental Humanities, I aim to strengthen our basic theoretical framework for more effectively interrogating human-environment interactions in deep human prehistory and to develop novel strategies for better disentangling the complex long-term histories of hunter-gatherer societies at the very end of the Ice Age.
